Harry’s Huddle

This month’s Harry Huddle was AWESOME!!

A huge thank you to Mark “Feathers” Fowler who provided us with a fantastic afternoon and some of the best food I have had in a long time. Mark’s talent for entertaining was second to none and we all had a lovely afternoon at the Orchid Farm. I have never seen so many orchids in my life and had no idea there were so many different species. It was amazing and some of them smelt beautiful.

Besides the incredible food and company, Mark treated us to spectacular Mai Tai’s. We had some new people there and everyone got on really well. It was incredible to see everyone enjoying the sun, the afternoon and the space we have created to be together and support each other.

Harry Huddle isn’t a normal support/social/discussion group…. it is a group that cares about each other and besides discussing the challenges of living with Harry, it is incredible to be able to also celebrate the achievements we are having in our lives in spite of Harry.

I am very proud of all of us and of what we are achieving and doing with our lives and would like to thank everyone who is part of Harry Huddle for giving me, and hopefully others, a place where I belong and a place where living with, achieving in spite of and beating the consequences of Harry is normal and part of our shared lives.

Love and appreciation to you all.

Our next Harry Huddle will be at the Hale and I am yet to confirm a date but will let you all know as soon as possible.

Take care, stay well and keep on thriving!!!!

Thanks to our hard working Volunteers

Thanks to one of our volunteers who put in a magnificent “Lavender Hedge” for our service users. This garden is in full bloom at the moment and brings everyone who passes it a great deal of joy both visual and from it’s beautiful perfume. The lavender was planted in the front garden over a year ago and we have benefited from the scent and colour in each season since. Grateful thanks for this sensory addition to our garden.

Another silent but consistent worker has been tidying our gardens painting tired woodwork and revitalising our outdoor entertaining area. We have freshly painted tables and chairs including new cushions and just recently a freshly painted concrete area. It looks fabulous and inviting – many thanks.

And its hard to express our gratitude to our tireless IT consultant who has been volunteering his time for over 17 years to Karumah. He will come in at any time to help out and never misses coming in on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week, he has been a member of our board for as many years and helps out in the office and on social events when needed – many thanks.

For all the ‘Carers’

The Outreach component of my work has increased and this has highlighted that we have such a lot of PLWH who are carers for loved ones. My focus for the coming months will be to endeavour to provide some R&R for these silent hard workers and am working closely with NSW Carers to enable this. There are some enticing opportunities for self-care offered by NSW Carers, so please, if I have not yet touched base with you and you care for a loved one contact Catherine on 0490 094 268.

Knit and Bitch – knitting for hunter homeless

Some service users have embraced the opportunity to ‘give back to the community’ by participating in this program. The results have been amazing with ‘closet knitters’ coming out and producing some amazing scarves beanies and squares for blankets. So far we’ve made 4 deliveries of finished knitting to the Hunter Homeless connect in Hamilton and the enthusiasm hasn’t waned yet. A huge thank you to our knitters and crotcheters, the squares are given to the volunteers at the Hunter Homeless Connection to be sewn into blankets.

Welcome to our new website!

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our new website which better reflects our organisation today. Here, you’ll find many new features that we hope will make your visit exciting, interactive and interesting.

25 years and still going strong!
What better way to begin our 25th anniversary celebrations than with our “new look” website. Our anniversary celebrations will rightly salute all those who chartered our initial course, those who turned the dream of providing support for people living with HIV into reality, and those who continue to build on those foundations and strengthen our presence in the HIV community.
We look forward to sharing more details about specific events throughout our milestone year and we invite you to come along for the journey!

Check out our events calendar for what’s on during this anniversary year.
